Farewell Paris...
On our last full day we finished up all the important things we wanted to do. We made the decision to go to The Catacombs early in the morning because it was the thing we wanted to do most. Unfortunately we also slept in, so we didn’t get there too early. When we arrived we were told it would be a two hour wait, and the rain was in full force that day. Instead of waiting in line we thought we would come back later in the day when the line would be shorter and finish up the Louvre first.
When we arrived at the Louvre with our magical Paris Museum Pass we came through again, and we were inside in five minutes. We finished the other two galleries after rushing for two hours and glad we could say we at least saw everything, even if it did all start to blend together at the end. So the two things we had to decide for the day was if we should go to the catacombs or go wait in line at Notre Dame to climb the bell towers. The catacombs won since we had at least already seen Notre Dame even though it wasn’t quite as late as we had wanted it to be. The rain was pouring when we stepped out of the metro, and the line was considerably shorter, but they still said it would be a two hour wait. There guess was close, and hour and a half later we were walking through the door, just before some of the last admissions. It was all totally worth the wait. It was super cool creepy (only thing I think of to describe it). I snuck some flash photography (I’m such a rebel) and got some really great pictures of the thousands of dead people surrounding us:
(spooky right?).
When we escaped the underground we rushed to Notre Dame to try to get there before the towers close. Luck was with us again and we were one of the last people admitted to the top. It was breathtaking and absolutely frightening. And again, worth it.
The next morning we woke up early to catch our 7:45 train to Nice, France, where we were going to hang out and relax on the beach for two days.
You make Paris totally sound like Disneyland. We have a similar experience at Disneyland where we snuck onto the Matterhorn as the last people. It was the best Matterhorn ride of my life.
ReplyDeleteAlso, you do know that the historian police/city of Paris people track illegal photos such as the ones above and will come and find you, right? You did steal a day out of those poor skelton's lives with each flash you took. I hope it was worth it.
