East Coast - Minneapolis & Chicago

Sup ya'll, long time no talk.

To say that time is flying by is an understatement. Now that we had officially left the great outdoors and just got to enjoy eating, drinking and regular showers the days seemed to have shortened.

Here's the first part of the East Coast peeps:

First stop - Minneapolis.

While Minneapolis wasn't high on our list, not camping was. We were finishing up the Badlands in higher than normal temps (high 90s, no shade) and I called it. We made a mad dash to Minni and got ourselves a hotel for two nights, where really all we had on the docket was going to the Mall of America and eating.

Not sure what I was thinking, given how much we both hate malls, but we spent what felt like an unending two hours exploring what MoA has to offer, mostly at the food court. The next day we went to a festival down at the waterside and took in the very urban landscape of downtown Minneapolis.

There are three things we won't forget - Ramez Kazama was SUPER good, and highly recommend if you happen to be in the area. We also had bomb burgers at Red Cow closer to the downtown area. Definitely two of the better meals on our trip so far.

There's also a super cool program that Minneapolis participates in to bring art to the community, Northern Spark. The event takes place in three locations later on in the evening in the main downtown area and has exhibits from different members of community, including many interactive exhibits. It was a blast and super unique experience if you have the fortune to be there during the two day event.

From here we booked it to Chicago and on the way stopped to do a bike trail, which of course took us hours to find and we ended up having a flat on our tire. Not until after we paid for the permit though :/

2nd Stop - Chicago

Chicago was again, mostly about eating - we went to a pretty fabulous art museum, the Art Institute of Chicago, but by far the winner of Museums is the Museum of Science and Industry. It was pretty pricey but the museum currently has a special exhibit about the science behind Pixar, a 3 story tornado that you can manipulate, and a giant Tesla coil they would set off every half hour or so. It's a pretty awesome experience and you only feel mildly creepy without kids.

We explored the city and saw how dramatically the weather could change on the Great Lakes. These were literally taken thirty minutes apart:

Deep dish pizza at Giordano's (but we liked Lou Malnatis more).

And I'm going to let you guess what Alex is doing here:

Now that I'm in "school" its getting harder to spend my wifi time writing these, but stay tuned!
